Venturing deeper into the world of cannabinoids with FireBar Labs, today, we bring you the lowdown on CBG or Cannabigerol, often referred to as the “mother” or “stem cell” of all cannabinoids.
Unveiling CBG
Despite being one of the lesser-known cannabinoids, CBG holds an unparalleled significance in the hemp world. It is the biogenetic precursor to all other cannabinoids, including the renowned CBD and THC.
The Science Behind CBG
All cannabinoids originate from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), the parent molecule or the “stem cell.” During the hemp plant’s growth, specific enzymes convert CBGA into the acidic forms of other cannabinoids, which then decarboxylate to form CBD, THC, and more. Any remaining CBGA transforms into CBG.
CBG and the Endocannabinoid System
Unlike THC, CBG doesn’t bind strongly with CB1 receptors in the brain, and so it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects. However, it does interact with the CB2 receptors, predominantly found in our peripheral organs.
Potential Benefits of CBG
While CBG’s potential benefits are still under research, preliminary studies indicate that it might have interesting properties worth exploring. As always, we advise you to consult with healthcare professionals when integrating new products into your wellness regimen.
